It was 209 years ago today that Cheshire, Massachusetts made a bold political statement about the presidential election of the previous fall. Farmers there showed their support for the new President Jefferson -- and their disdain for the candidate from their own state -- by sending the Virginian and fellow farmer an enormous block of cheese.
