Well, a U-Boat
did attack Cape Cod, but 92 years ago today. Read the description of the event on
Mass Moments to learn how concerns about the security of North Atlantic shipping had helped lead the United States into World War I. One shell landed in Orleans -- the only direct hit on U.S. soil during the war. We will try to find the site as part of our Geography Department's 2010 HumPhy trip, October 8-10 (see posts from
2009 HumPhy to get a flavor for that field camp).
